Bitcoin - The Currency of the Internet

A community dedicated to Bitcoin, the currency of the Internet. Bitcoin is a distributed, worldwide, decentralized digital money. Bitcoins are issued and managed without any central authority whatsoever: there is no government, company, or bank in charge of Bitcoin. You might be interested in Bitcoin if you like cryptography, distributed peer-to-peer systems, or economics. A large percentage of Bitcoin enthusiasts are libertarians, though people of all political philosophies are welcome.

Is Proof of Stake the solution to the energy madness started with Bitcoin?

So far I really like the idea of cryptocurrency, but I really dislike the idea of Bitcoin. It's a giant waste of resources for no good reason. Even leaving the mining of it aside, "each Bitcoin transaction consumes 250kWh, enough to power homes for nine days." (bitcoins-insane-energy-consumption-explained). I just can't support something this inefficient.
I'm currently learning about Proof of Stake (what-is-proof-of-stake/), and I wonder if that's the way forward to having an efficient cryptocoin - both in mining and transactions. I know very little in the grand scheme of how cryptocurrency works, so I wonder what do you guys think?

How many "I wanna start with Bitcoin" chats you had recently and what wallet+exchange you recommended and why?

I had like 4 chats with friends and recommended Bitbay as exchange (because it has good connection to Polish banking system and fast payout) and Bitcoin core as this is wallet as it is intended to be but you need to have fully sync blockchain that I am always mentioning.

When did you first start with bitcoin?

First time I heard about bitcoin was back in 2012, it was one of my best friends who was a geek that told me (we were 14 years old), in 2014 (or 15) he built his first pc by selling off some of his bitcoin. I remember back then staying up for days trying to buy bitcoin after that (also wanted a pc) but 95% of places didn’t support my country and the rest, I was too young for. I even tried tor browser and some sites there, though they weren’t so appealing. It seems every now and then new technologies or markets come up and some of those who invest in them early or utilize them are greatly rewarded. So here’s my 2 questions for y’all, 1. When did you first hear of bitcoin and how? 2.Where do people who’ve heard of bitcoin from the start, the internet and such technologies find them? It seems if you truly believed in any of these early on you’d be well off now.

About to start with Bitcoin

Hello,
So I recently got interested in purchasing bitcoin and have been doing some basic reading, I think I get the basics. Since I don't fully understand the trading aspects yet, I am thinking of buying a small amount of bitcoin (as motivation to commit to this) which I won't touch for 6 months or a year, or until I feel ready to invest more and be active.
So just to make sure I understood clearly, is this how it goes:
Buy on Kraken-withdraw to non-custodial wallet of choice (thinking of blockstream Green)--print my seeds and secret words for a paper wallet, make a copy on a USB -keep safely
If this very basic process is correct, I have some questions, once I print my seed and secret words can I just delete my digital wallet and a year from now open a new one and enter the seed or QR manually? Will I be charged for Kraken withdrawl or at any other point in the process? Is there anything else I should take in account?
If it's not, what important step am I missing.
Thanks in advance!

I'm looking to get started with Bitcoin Cash. Where should I begin?

After hearing Roger's recent "store of value" talk on YouTube, I realized that he knows more about money and currency than anyone else in the crypto space... and I'm all in.
So... how can I get started with Bitcoin Cash? Can it be used anywhere yet? Is this Bitcoin Cash's most popular discussion forum? What are some ways that I can help this project?
This is the first time I've ever wanted to use and promote a crypto. Previously, I just wanted to speculate with it ($$$).
Any resources or websites you can direct me to would also be much appreciated.
