That time I nearly followed my younger brother's footsteps and almost OD'd on an Opioid/Benzo mix! Maybe not the most pleasant experience for one's body, but my mind got altered forever afterward! LONG ASS POST BUT A MUST READ!

Heya guys,
I wrote about this last Sunday on Facebook simply because the thought popped into my head, the thought that I had never really thought about aside from the moment I managed to put fussy bits and pieces together from what I then experienced as somewhat of a blackout but in the end realized was something entirely much larger than anything I have ever come in contact with prior or since then!
I want to share this with you guys. It's maybe a difficult read at first, it going into detail about my near-death experience and one breath away from being an OD, but bear with me, it turns into something so much more if you just hang on and read what I write!
This is exactly what I remember happening, how I remember it happening. Me for some reason not remembering this right away but having to work this memory as the biggest, most complex Jigsaw puzzle in the world for maybe around 3 weeks in total inside my mind in order to put everything together into a whole image I can share with you guys!
The only thing you guys have to know before you read this is that 22nd November 2016 my younger brother, 18 years old, OD'd on Codeine and Zopiclone, dying an Opioid/Non-Benzo overdose. Me being woken up that morning, walking outside of my room and noticing there being around 10 both cops and EMTs on the scene. I was so confused as to what had happened that I had to see it for myself, and as I walked to the door to his room and turned my head around the corner, I saw him. My sweet baby brother lying there, cold as a popsicle, dead on his floor. My father having tried CPR for the entirety of those 40 minutes it took the ambulance to reach us. That was it. I'm done talking about the hardest day of my entire life, you don't need to know more. Aside maybe from my brother's name, it being Elias.
So it basically started in either late December or early January 2017-2018, with me driving some friends around who then picked up some people and before I knew it the friends had departed from my car and I was just surrounded by some people I had no idea who even were. I had recently lost my apartment and was on the streets, just living in my car, for the most part, sometimes my mother supported me with some nights at a hostel, but mostly I slept in my car.
After a while, all the people cycle out of my car and I'm left with this one, maybe around 35, dude who for some reason was just a jolly fucking roger and somehow managed to always be pleasant in conversation. Very charming and so fucking nice that I could have brought him home to my parents without being gay and my parent's not even noticing him being a dude so they wouldn't resent me for "coming out of the closet"...
He asked if I could take a small car ride with him out of town. I had nothing to do so I just said "Why the fuck not? I don't have any other place to be!" This was very late at night and we drove to some remote place I had never been to and didn't even know existed until just then.
He offers some junkies that are waiting for us to enter the car, it being freezing outside, it being like -30°C outside. They handed him a small package of something and he handed them some cash. They counted the cash and left. We stopped a few times in the side of the road after that on our way back to the city, the first time him revealing what it was he was actually buying from those junkies.
He opened the box in front of me and pulled out something that looked like a patch or something, him saying that this was a 100µg Fentanyl patch which he then cut just a little piece from and vaped on aluminum foil, sitting there next to me in the car.
I had never seen anything like it, that it was possible to ingest some sort of bandaid in this manner. That there were Fentanyl patches going around my town and how absolutely SMASHED he got from inhaling some vapor from that aluminum foil.
I didn't think much of it and dropped him at home. A few days later he calls me and asks me to come to the head shop he owned back then and ran alongside his father, who really did all the work, this guy only spending the profits on, apparently, Fentanyl and Oxy and some shit like that. He said he was gonna show me something special.
I, again, was homeless, so I just thought to myself: "Where else would I go? At least there I have a roof over my head!" but decided to have one of my best friends back then with me as backup as I didn't know what I was about to walk into.
We arrive at his shop and, there being something about this guy, his personality being absolutely one of a kind, we talked and joked some, until he drags up a glass pipe and this package of 5x Fentanyl patches as well. He then gets his scissors and starts cutting these tiny ass pieces off one of the patches he had, puts it in the pipe along with some tobacco and takes a hit.
He then offered me and my friend some. Each of us just got in line thinking: "YOLO!!!" And each of us took some hits and I got to experience the single most absolutely gorgeously and best highs of my entire life! It felt amazing just getting a hit from a tiny bit of this patch. The piece he'd put into the pipe each time being so small that if you'd put it on the table, you'd never find it again!
But while I felt how amazingly good it felt to breathe this shit in, I also, at the same time, felt how absolutely amazingly dangerous this substance was and how if it wanted to, it could kill me before I passed the pipe back to him if he didn't dose it correctly! It was so dangerous that I wanted to swear to myself to never do it after that night in question, but it being so fucking good as well that I lost that thought before I realized what I was thinking and just took another fucking hit of this best fucking high I've ever felt in my mind, body, and soul!
While we're smoking this stuff, my friend had some pills he was constantly offering me. I was in the mindset of a 12-year-old trying Weed for the first time, I just wanted to get the fuck fucked out of my skull. Fuck it, I was homeless, he was giving us hits of one of the most expensive drugs around here, he at least never asked us for any money in return, so what did I have to lose?
We partied like there was no tomorrow. At one point him offering us Oxy80 and me purchasing one pill from him, him crushing it down after having removed the film that's always on these pills and me and my friend splitting it, one line each!
I didn't really feel that much from it, maybe a little heat sensation in my legs, but nothing more. Our new friend all of a sudden asking if we had any Speed on us, me remembering that I had like 10 grams stored somewhere in my car, so I went outside to get it. I got locked outside for a while but they figured it out in the end and let me in.
When I handed him the bag of Speed he reached into some sort of purse and next thing I know he's holding a syringe with a needle on the end and him filling us with some bullshit about him rarely ever shooting shit up, him just needing to get some Stimulants into his arm because he had smoked too much Fentanyl.
He starts IV'ing in front of us and can I say and that buddy of mine confirm that seeing it so fucking up close and personal was one of the most horrifying sights I had never thought I would be witnessing at any point in my life. This guy being then the only guy I knew who injected his drugs at some point.
After that, he's feeling all better and gets a message from a Weed dealer friend of his and because I'm so fucked out of my skull, I ask my friend if he can drive, him somehow being able to take the wheel no matter how fucking fucked the both of us are and him driving perfectly in that condition.
We arrive in another part of town at this apartment block which was like 5 or 6 stories tall and was I told it was a part of the University's dorms that people could rent out if they attended the school, even though the actual school was actually somewhere around 30 kilometers THAT way... I never fully understood if it was correct that it was some sort of dorm for the Uni. Because it'd be a very strange place for that dorm since there were literally 30 kilometers to the University which was exactly in the other side of town, we couldn't have been farther from it, actually!
We take the elevator to the top and my friend sneaks me one pill, me just not ever giving it a second thought, just swallowing it whole and moving on. We enter an apartment on the top floor where this insane noise was coming from which sounded like a VERY loud vacuum cleaner but turned out to be an Asic Bitcoin Miner they were mining Bitcoin on for some bizarre ass reason.
Upon entering the apartment two guys greet us. I didn't know either of them but after a short while realized that one of them was the guy that had been accused of sexually molesting a friend of mine in her sleep, her going to sleep with her pants on, her waking up next to him with her pants off. I didn't know the whole story but when I met her after that night I told her where he could be found so she could have her goons do some street justice on his face, repeatedly, for having tried to rape a dear friend of mine.
Anyway, my friend notices a big glass jar sitting on the dinner table filled to the brim with Weed and probably the biggest fucking bong I have ever seen with my own two eyes sitting on the floor next to it. My friend asks if he can take a hit from it with some of his own Weed and does he get the owner's permission to do so. He takes a hit and then tells me to take a hit. I never having taken a hit from a bong before just try my best and without even a second thought I exhale this HUGE cloud of smoke which, according to my friend, "was the largest bong hit he'd ever seen in his life!!!" him almost thirty, having smoked Weed since he was 12!
I instantly feel absolutely smashed. But I still felt as if it wasn't just the Weed causing it, that there was something more at play as I just all of a sudden feel exhausted. I find myself a sofa or a bed or something to sit on and lean my head against the wall.
All of a sudden I realize what those pills my friend was always handing me actually were. Of course, had he bought like 50 Diazepam/Valium tablets from one of our friend's mother who was sometimes dealing more than an actual pharmacy would do on a good day. I realize that we were taking Diazepam, which is a Benzo, maybe a soft Benzo but still a Benzo, while we were smoking Fentanyl and snorting Oxy80 and shit. Me knowing for a fact that mixing Opioids and Benzos almost always leading to an overdose and sometimes, more often than not at least, death!
I feel like I need to make my friend aware of this little fact but before I knew it, my eyes just seemed to slowly slide shut, without me having to even think about closing them.
What I see under my eyelids, which usually is just this black background with this orgy of millions and millions of different colors on it, is all of a sudden just completely different! I see nothing! Absolutely nothing! There was no color, there was no background, there was no anything under my eyelids! I felt as if I was just looking right into the Void! That place where there is nothing and if something happens to go there it becomes nothing as well!
Me feeling my breath always getting slower and shorter, a short while being from that moment to the moment I feel insanely dizzy from little to no oxygen entering my lungs at that moment. My breath being so short that I could have counted a 100 Mississippi's in between those few short breaths I knew I had left.
I start betting on when my last and absolutely final breath is gonna kiss me goodbye and I'm just gonna die from respiratory depression like I've read about would happen in exactly this situation. I was feeling a little cocky, like I was taunting what I knew what was about to happen, me of course in the mindset that if I'm gonna die right then and there, I'd do so with a smile on my face! Me, of course, being more terrified than I had ever been before in my entire life! Basically counting down to my last breath where I'd suffocate and die without anyone at the party noticing anything being wrong.
I then start to see this little white star in the middle of all that nothingness I was looking at under my eyelids, this tiny little star that I somehow felt I was supposed to move my mind closer to. As I start doing so, moving my mind closer and closer to the star, all of a sudden my entire mind goes blank! I'm thinking nothing! I'm feeling nothing! Hearing nothing and I can't feel the fact that I have skin around my bones. I'm completely Depersonalized as I have never experienced before, me being basically a blank slate for some very odd reason.
I then start seeing visions of moments I had in the past with my little brother, Elias, before he died on me and left me to fend for myself in this cruel and unjust world we live in. Some of the things I saw were moments we spent together, moments I always remembered about him and loved to death, but others were these strange moments where I wasn't there and the only person able to remember something like that only being Elias himself!
I'm always moving closer and closer to the star, until I realize it's not a star but a big while circle! Although I can't hear anything, I can feel my little brother, as if he's talking to me, about Rocket League or some music he was producing or something like that he always used to talk about, it all coming from that white circle which was getting larger and larger by the moment!
I then feel just this overwhelming feeling that I'm standing right next to Elias, that I can feel his presence and can almost touch him!
Then when the circle is about to become as big as it possibly can, I feel this insane heat all around me, like the most compassion I have ever felt in my life, like anyone has ever felt in anyone's life! And then it happens. Whatever was going on peaked and I feel every sense of my body and mind feeling as though I'm experiencing Elias with every last thread of my existence, me smelling that smell that was always of him, that smell I always connected in my mind to him and his room, that safe haven where I could check on him at any moment during the week and spew whatever nonsense I had to spew over him and he'd always meet me halfway with more understanding than I had ever gotten from anyone else in life!
Then there was the taste! I could taste, or it wasn't exactly that I could taste it, it was more an emotion that I could feel in my entire mouth and tongue. I don't know what it was or felt like exactly but there was something about it which lead me to believe that Elias was just around the corner. Me feeling as though I was holding him in my arms, him holding me back, me getting that hug I always wanted to plant on him, that hug I never had the courage to give him when he was alive and was finally getting right there in that moment!
As I said, every sense of my being was feeling his presence in some way! Some significant fucking way and was I lead to believe that the big white circle, which was so close to me I could almost smell it, had something to do with my sweet Elias and that he was probably inside that big fucking white circle. Him waiting eagerly to meet me again, me getting ready to kick the door that this circle actually was the fuck down because I was so fucking ready to see my best friend in the whole world again. Me just knowing that if I tore the door down, we'd meet again and spend the rest of time together, in each other's loving embrace!
I know what I'm supposed to do! I'm supposed to enter this big ass white circle! And at the exact moment I had, I get pulled the fuck back by some unknown force. I try entering again but the same thing just happens. I get pulled the fuck back! So for the third time, I try and I put everything I have left into it! It resulting in me getting pulled so far back from the circle that it started looking like this white little star again in no time!
All of a sudden I stop feeling all those ridiculously strong emotions and sensations, I re-enter reality once more and there it the moment I was betting on before! I just know by how my lungs felt like they had been in a huge vehicular crash that this is the last one! This breath that's coming up is the last fucking breath I'm ever going to breathe! I just know it in every fiber of my being!
I'm starting to like the feeling that this is it. That I'm about to leave and never come back! That once and for all, this was how I was gonna die and even though for having tried to off myself a million times in the past, it never appearing to work properly, but it working now and I was finally gonna get a break from all the suffering which is almost the only emotion I have ever felt in my life and was gonna get to see some peace!
When something hits me like I'm getting a hit from defibrillators, all of a sudden I just get this intense shock all over my body and feel my body in its entirety jump from that bed or sofa I was sitting on, my eyes finally opening up, me having to open them myself, even though that was the hardest fucking thing I have ever had to do in my entire life, it felt as if there were billions of tons of lead sitting on my eyelids, me barely being able to lift them just enough to see what's going on right in front of me.
I just know and feel that I'm standing in my own two feet and am I able to walk out of the apartment, out to the open stairwell where the elevator was located and as I open the door outside I just feel the freezing cold air filling my lungs, both my insanely short breath becoming longer and stronger, along with my heartbeat beating over those two beats per minute I had felt it was doing earlier.
For some reason, almost exactly as I feel like I can finally take a deep and good breath again, that I'm not suffocating from the inside, the party is over and do my friend and that Fentanyl guy walk outside and meet me, me having been feeling like I was about to die just moments prior, walking into the elevator and then into my car.
The Fentanyl guy asked if he could drive, I was still recovering from the fact that I was just about a nanosecond from dying inside some guy's home I had never met before, so I tried to utter something that he took as a yes and as I layed in the back seat on the way to his headshop again, him driving like he was absolutely retarded, him never having taken any sort of driver's test, me terrified the whole time in the back that I was gonna maybe experience something like I just did again but after a car crash, it being a miracle that there were no cops around because they would have seen by how the car was driven that either he had never driven a car before, someone was drugged out of hist fucking skull under the wheel, or both, which was exactly the case!
We get to the headshop and I just pass out on the couch, waking up an hour later with his dad standing over me holding a piece of aluminum foil which had obviously been used as something to vape Fentanyl from and asked me like I just fucked his wife: "WERE YOU GUYS SMOKING FENTANYL IN HERE ALL NIGHT????"
Me just trying to say something, trying as hard as I could, in the end just walking out of the shop, realizing that my phone was dead and I didn't have my charger while my car wasn't anywhere to be seen on the parking lot.
I was fucked! I had nothing to do, nowhere to go and my apartment had just been stolen! Everything after I almost died from an overdose the night before. I couldn't believe how much of a shit I would have become and promised myself never to reach such a low fucking place, while I cried and bought a new charger at the mobile phone store that was next door to the headshop....
So yeah! That's the story I wanted to tell you! What do you think? Me reaching a new low point in my life, me never having gone so low before and never having gone so low after this happened, thank fucking god!!!
To me, all I experienced about my sweet brother Elias, all the emotions, the sensations, the feelings, everything, was my mind realizing that I was about to die and in order to make sure that I didn't suffer as much as I could have, it administered something like a pretty fucking strong DMT trip or something like that to soften the impact that dying would have been!
This being very similar to every single story I have ever heard about people who have either died or escaped death by the skin on their ass. It almost being exactly like some stories, life flashing before you, you seeing some loved one's, feeling intense and otherworldly emotions and feeling you didn't think anyone was capable of feeling. Even the "tunnel of light" some people talk about was there in the form of my white circle!
I gather that I was about to die, was gonna die, had basically written in hell's guestbook already, but something, probably just my body not accepting this death I was about to experience, it making a break for it in the end, which was what saved me!
Even though I sometimes hate my body and even recently got diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, I must admit that you, body, you're all right!
I want this tale to serve as a cautionary tale to anyone and everyone who has thought about mixing Benzos and Opioids! Along with being just me telling anyone and everyone who cares to hear it to stay the fuck away from fucking Fentanyl!
Don't do it! I beg you! Don't even think about touching the Fent! Please! Do it for me!
I hereby wish you all a happy Friday as writing this whole thing took me like two and a half hours or so, it having been Thursday when I started!
Peace and love to you and everyone you care about and love!
Sincerely yours, Russel Dunbar!

Decred is insanely undervalued - A Confluence of Blockchain mechanics and Raw Scarcity

Decred is insanely undervalued - A Confluence of Blockchain mechanics and Raw Scarcity
Decred has caught a burst of long overdue wind today.
Below is my thesis on recent price action drivers and why I think Decred is insanely undervalued right now from an on-chain/blockchain mechanics perspective.
This is an expansion on a tweet I put out here https://twitter.com/_Checkmatey_/status/1190349477120552961
Fundamentally, the project is one of the most undervalued assets in the market and I believe the largest information asymmetry next to Bitcoin. The smart money know this. They have been accumulating. Looking at the volume of DCR moving on-chain, we can see a significant amount of DCR moving in 2019 at the current support range. We know that DCR is always on the move due to tickets so when we see high volume nodes like this, it supports the notion of actual accumulation in addition to the usual transaction flow. We have seen similar growth in the median and mean transaction sizes throughout 2019. Larger wallets, larger DCR purchases.
Update: Note how the 2019 volume node, if just looking at USD chart could be attributed to Dec-Apr period or the recent drawdown. However looking against the BTC chart confirms that the dominant accumulation has occurred during the recent period as the BTC price probes the lows. This is what I consider a high volume zone of support characterised by a large transfer of coins (miners selling, accumulating buyers).
On-chain DCR volume profile plotted against price for BTC (black) and USD (blue)
The recent price action drawdown in my opinion is a result of Miners going too hard to fast. ASICs were introduced in early 2018 and we see an explosion in PoW Difficulty. Mining is a leveraged play for DCR and in this case is unlike what occurred for BTC in that it was almost four years until ASICs were on the scene for Bitcoin. This means that Bitcoins naturally high early inflation had time to disperse before ASICs and serious hardware investment came online. ASICs are capital intensive, not hobbyist grade meaning coins mined must necessarily become coins sold.
We can compare the insane growth in Decred mining since Jan 2018 against the market to see this on a relative scale. Mind you, this is a bullish signal. Miners are committing heavy capital to the Decred chain security. They have done their due diligence and have high conviction. That is not something to ignore.
Full tweet on this here https://twitter.com/_Checkmatey_/status/1177650799050133504
Normalised difficulty growth (left) since Jan 2018 and (right) 2019 Year to Date
As miners over-extend without support of price appreciation, they must sell more coins to pay bills. Eventually the weak miners have to capitulate and difficulty ribbon squeezes as mining equipment is switched off. We have seen this play out for Bitcoin where squeezing of the difficulty ribbon indicates a valuable period for accumulation. Willy Woo talks about this here https://woobull.com/introducing-the-difficulty-ribbon-the-best-times-to-buy-bitcoin/.
What happens next is that the strong miners gain an increasing share of the hashrate. Their energy is thus rewarded with more DCR and so they can sell less of their income and Hodl more. This effectively begins to constrain supply rather than the oversaturation during capitulation. Over time this leads to a reversal in price action which further perpetuates the effect.
Price of a scarce asset must appreciate with reduced circulating supply assuming demand relatively remains stable or increases.
Decred total cumulative block subsidy paid (price x block reward DCR) and Difficulty ribbon
This is actually very healthy for Decred. Coins are being distributed by miners en-mass right now, nullifying the risk of miners holding too high of a supply within the staking system leading to centralisation. I would argue that this distribution of coins is one of the most important and bullish signals long term. We know that miners stake as well and thus they are able to generate income on Hodled coins. I expect this to actually soften the degree of miner capitulation as they can turn off power whilst still generating income.
For this reason, I do not suspect we will see photos of mountains of Decred ASICs being thrown out as we saw for Bitcoin in 2018. The machines are simply put on hold until price reverses to justify power consumption. This is a valuable business feasibility case for miners and a feature of long term sustainability in the chain security.
Decred Resilience
This is where the elegance of Decred resilience steps in.
As miners slow, supply saturates, price drops.
DCR Tickets become cheaper.
Stakeholders step in and accumulation begins.
The Ticket Price hit an ATH of 140+ DCR as Stakeholders begin accumulating and commit capital to secure the chain. The Hybrid PoW/PoS system works as a counter balance. When price is in a strong uptrend, stakeholders are provided an exit to capitalise on gains as miners have a strong case for expanding their operations (PoW dominant security). During price drawdowns, miners drop out and the cheap DCR stimulates Hodlers buying and locking capital which locks down available supply from attackers. An attack would thus drive price higher and the cycle repeats.
As above, showing the total DCR locked in tickets hits an ATH as price drops due to miner capitulation
PermabullNino made the observation that Decred functions as an elegant yet robust accounting system. His discussion on block subsidies are shown in the charts above and linked here https://medium.com/@permabullnino/decred-on-chain-a-look-at-block-subsidies-6f5180932c9b.Decred has a has past, present and future cash flows distributed to those who support it most. This puts Decred security in good hands- Miners 60%- Stakeholders 30%- Builders 10%
Price is currently hovering around the PoW total subsidy paid (red line) and means miners are indeed feeling the squeeze as this is the cost basis of all DCR paid to date. Once you factor in overheads and capital costs, it makes sense we are seeing DCR supply distribution. The last time we saw price dip to this line was early in Decreds history and was followed by a rapid repricing.
We now have three mechanisms at play which will act to constrain supply
  • Miners are distributing heavily but eventually will switch to hodling as the strong miners hash share grows.
  • Stakeholder are absorbing supply en mass and locking in tickets due to relatively cheap prices
  • Inflation rate is in a state of constant reduction
Scarcity
My recent work looking at the Decred stock-to-flow model (which does exist and is convincing, contrary to what the Bitcoin maxi community may want to believe), suggests that DCR is in the oversold range. It has deviated by 1.5 standard deviations from the S2F model mean which is near identical to Bitcoin at 50% supply mined. Historically for Bitcoin and Decred, this has been an opportune period for accumulation. More on this discussion in my tweet here https://twitter.com/_Checkmatey_/status/1184159137564889089
Note that Decred, likely due to the smooth issuance and difference in market awareness, is less volatile than Bitcoin. The significant undervaluation of Bitcoin at 50% mined was due to the first 2012 halving where it was a very different and far smaller market. I would expect DCR to be repriced sooner rather than later as the smart money steps in having now developed Bitcoin hindsight.
Standard deviations of DCR and BTC price from the respective stock-to-flow linear regression models
As a final note, if we look at Decred and Bitcoin market valuations plotted against ratio of 21M coins issued, which normalises for coin age, we see a fascinating similarity in these coins trajectory. Bitcoin was worth $127M at 50% coins mined and Decred was worth $180M. Considering we are in a log scale market, this is practically the same. Decred has achieved this value both benefiting from market awareness and size, but also in the face of heavy (albeit generally ill-equipped) alt-coin competition, quite remarkable.
Decred and Bitcoin Market and Realised Caps and S2F models plotted against ratio of 21M coins mined
Given that Decred has such insanely strong fundamentals, has developed a convincing monetary premium in it's short life and traverses the same stock-to-flow path as Bitcoin, I believe there is immense value flying under the markets radar.
The recent price action drawdown can reasonably be attributed to miners over-extending. However based on both prior Decred behaviour and drawing comparisons to Bitcoin history, there is a strong argument to be made that supply will soon be constrained on multiple fronts and the current value is both highly undervalued and being absorbed by the smart money.
Feedback, counter-points and discussions welcome.
Cheers,
CM.

The state of /r/btc & Bitcoin Cash - easily explained with a post they made

I thought to try and explain to people how it is clear that /btc no longer serves any purpose to actually learn about BTC, BCH, BSV or indeed anything crypto.
You only need to load up this post and look at the first 3 posts, and I've also included a link to what I am talking about here as an image
Let's deep-dive and analyse the post:-
First we can see it was posted over 17 hours ago and has a rating of 0. In fact I just upvoted and saw it's still 0 so post must of been -1 or less. Basically it's a post that has been heavily downvoted. Hardly a good start to encourage visibility and thus discussion of the subject at hand.
So let's move on to the subject:-
From a technical perspective, how is BSV on the wrong track?
Interesting, the subject pleads for a technical argument, and appears to be in favour of BSV.
Let's analyse the post contents:-
I think BSV is on the wrong track because of their stated rule that BSV will scale to the world without ever modifying the protocol. I think this is quite unreasonable and might make problems that would otherwise be easier to solve, more complicated to solve.
Oh. So the post is actually NEGATIVE towards BSV, but the subject merely mentioning BSV was enough to make many (I suspect) downvote without even reading, and if such things exist it was quickly added to a queue of posts for the bots to downvote as must not encourage non-personality (i.e. tech) level discussion on /btc!
It seems clear that the poster has a weak argument, however simply upvoting this post and agreeing with them in the comments would of been the best way to "attack BSV" and "make BCH look better" if this is the goal of the subreddit. It clearly isn't providing uncensored information as we shall now see....
I won't explain why the post is wrong, as you'll see that done later. Let's move on to the first reply:-
While Blockstream claims that blocks can't safely exceed 1 MB and that everyone needs to run their own node, BSV does the opposite. They say that blocks can be unlimited size without any software upgrades.
There are limits to practical block size. We (BCH) are working on ways to increase the practical block size. For instance, Graphene helps with propagation of blocks by reducing the amount of information sent for each block by taking advantage of the fact that most miners already have most of the transactions already. They just need to know which ones to include in the next block. CTOR will help with their ordering.
And it isn't just technical stuff that a lot of us hate BSV. They (C.W. & his sugar daddy) tried to do a hostile takeover of BCH.
OK. So the top reply (with +13 up votes) is technically wrong, which means one of 2 things:
1 - the tech level of people left in /btc is around 0. 2 - the honesty of people left in /btc is around 0.
Let's go through the post again, and analyse why it is technically wrong:-
While Blockstream claims that blocks can't safely exceed 1 MB and that everyone needs to run their own node, BSV does the opposite. They say that blocks can be unlimited size without any software upgrades.
As this is a BCash subreddit, users should know that Blockstream's arguments regarding scale are pretty irrelevant or should be on a subreddit that was once dedicated to "big block Bitcoin". This is a warning sign.
However the next part regarding "without any software upgrades" clearly demonstrates the posters lack of tech knowledge and lack of what "set-in-stone protocol" actually means.
Let's use an analogy I have explained before, imagine the protocol is "must move, must have 4 wheels, must have steering wheel, must have accelerator, must have driver seat". This is the basic protocol of a car, it's not a motorbike which could be considered a alt-transport.
Does the Ford Model T fit this protocol? YES. Does the Lamborghini fit this protocol? YES.
The Lamborghini is simply the software upgrade of the Model T, the protocol remained the same.
Same thing will happen with node software, as the old BCore routines designed for small 1MB blocks are rewritten to account for massive blocks, how the software will be rewritten entirely to run on a cluster of machines (all distributing the workload) until eventually perhaps the very expensive design/fabrication process will be done to etch some of the protocol into silicon for much faster speed/efficiency gains. This could be like comparing the efficiency CPU mining to ASIC mining. Still - THE SAME PROTOCOL.
The post continues with the following:-
There are limits to practical block size.
BCash are working on all these things to apparently scale, without actually scaling (even on testnet). They haven't tried scaling and then reached bottlenecks and had to do these things, they implanted CTOR for example before trying to scale. How is it that BSV can do 1gb+ blocks on STN (Scaling Test Network) and 250MB blocks on live network using the same protocol essential as BCash before they added CTOR at fork time?
Of course even though post was about tech, they can't leave out some form of character attack which I will not address:-
And it isn't just technical stuff that a lot of us hate BSV. They (C.W. & his sugar daddy) tried to do a hostile takeover of BCH.
OK, so finally let's look at the reply to that post:-
No one is saying you can't upgrade software. People are saying the protocol should not keep changing.
Software is there to optimize the protocol.
Adrian-X is basically summarising what I said above regarding the Model-T analogy. It's is truth, it is fact. It's a clear as night and day wether you think it is a bad idea or not it doesn't change the truthfulness of that statement. You can't argue with that statement at all as much as you can't argue that the sky is blue.
So therefor you have to ask why does the post have a -4 rating? Not only that if you have the correct reddit settings or see my screenshot you'll see the little + cross symbol next to the post rating which means comment was heavily upvoted & downvoted. This means there was a lot more then 5 people downvoting it as more than 1 person upvoted it.
This is why /btc as any sort of place for truth or for valid discussion and learning is rated 0 - regardless of it they are truly uncensored, or as we have proven only pretend to be.
The result is the same - you will not learn about Bitcoin there.

GPU Mining Crash Course - START HERE!

Welcome All to the GPUMining Crash Course!
With the increase in prices in cryptocurrency, a lot of people are getting back into mining and a lot of people are brand new to the concept overall. So, I quickly wrote this crash course to help you understand what to expect and how to successfully mine your first cryptocurrency. This crash course isn't gonna have all of the fluff you'd see in a normal publication. This is just everything you need to know to get up and running on your first cryptocurrency mining rig.

What is cryptocurrency mining?

One of the main things about cryptocurrencies is that they are "decentralized". Sounds great, but WTF does that even mean? Well, the easiest way to explain it is...
You know how if you want to send your friend/family money digitally, you can do so through your bank. Your bank likely takes a transaction fee and in a few days they will transfer the money. Since cryptocurrencies are decentralized, they don't have a bank or organization to fulfill the transfer of money. Instead, they outsource the computing power of their cryptocurrency network to miners (soon to be you). These miners are verifying transactions, securing the blockchain, and powering the cryptocurrency's specific network among other things. As an incentive, the miners collect transaction fees on the transactions that they verify and collect block rewards while new currency is still being introduced into the ecosystem.

What kind of rig should I build?

You can mine cryptocurrencies using your CPU, GPU, FPGA, or ASIC, but this is a GPU Mining subreddit, so I will cater this to GPUs.
For building a great all-around GPU rig, there are two models of GPUs that I'd recommend:
Both of these GPUs have solid hashrates across most mining algorithms and for a decent price! You should be able to find both of these kinds of GPUs used for around $200-$250 each, which is a great price if you know what happened during the last mining craze! ($200 GPUs were out of stock everywhere and people were reselling them for $600+ each)
There are also plenty of great AMD GPUs for mining, but I've worked mostly with Nvidia so that's why both of my recommendations are Nvidia and not AMD.
Other parts to your rig that you'll need are listed below. Most of these can be pieces of crap and are just needed to make the rig actually run, but the one spot you DON'T want to cheap out on is the power supply unit. A decent power supply unit will keep your home from burning down while also keeping your rigs up and running smoothly. Here are my recommendations:

She's built, now what?

Now you need to do a few things. I am a Windows miner, so I will be speaking to Windows here:
  1. Update Windows - Do all of the updates. Just do it.
  2. Update Drivers - Go to the EVGA website and download GeForce experience. It will keep your GPU drivers up to date.
  3. Go to Windows Device Manager and make sure all of your GPUs show up under "Display Adapters". If it is there, but it isn't showing the Name/Model of the GPU as the name, right click it and select "Update Driver". This should fix it.
Assuming you've done all of this, you're ready to download a mining application.

Mining Software

There are tons to choose from! Claymore, Phoenix, EWBF, LolMiner, etc... It can be overwhelming pretty quickly since they all have different algorithm support, speeds, efficiencies, and a whole lot more. On top of that, in order to get them running you need to set up batch files to call the proper exe, point you to the correct pool, and a whole bunch of other stuff that can be confusing to a new user. Not to mention, you will probably need a separate miner, config file, batch file, etc. for each different algorithm that you're interested in mining on.
Instead, I recommend that you download a miner management software that will take care of most of this tedious work for you. There are a few in the sidebar, but the /GPUMining favorite is AIOMiner. It was developed by our very own community member, xixspiderxix with the intention of making mining as easy as possible to do and without any fees. It supports over 100 different algorithms, so you'll be able to mine nearly ANY cryptocurrency you'd like. Just download it from their website and it will take you through a quick tutorial to help you get set up! You can also connect your rig to their website for remote monitoring and control. You've probably seen a few of their posts around this subreddit.
Other Windows mining softwares include:
Note: Many mining softwares have fees built into them. Most are around 1%, but can go as high as 5% or greater! You want a mining software with little or no fees at all so that you get to keep as much cryptocurrency as possible. These fees aren't something you actively pay, the software will automatically take it by mining on the developers behalf for a given amount of time and then switching back to mining on your own behalf. So, please be diligent in the software that you evaluate and make sure it is reputable.

I keep hearing about NiceHash. What is that?

The asshole of the mining industry. Jk, but not really.
NiceHash is a software program that allows you to sell your rig's hashing power to someone on their marketplace. They market themselves as profitable mining, but you're not really mining. You're selling your power in exchange for Bitcoin.
They did a great job telling people that with them, you're always mining the most profitable coin, but that's just not true. Since it is a mining marketplace, they make you mine whatever their most expensive contract is. If their contracts are below market prices, then you're not operating as efficiently and profitably as you could be.
NiceHash also has a sketchy history, which continues to this day. In 2017, they were hacked and lost $65M worth of Bitcoin. No one got paid out for MONTHS and many of their executives conveniently resigned. Their platform is also used to destroy cryptocurrencies. Since people are able to purchase mining power on their platform, people have used their platform to purchase enough mining power to control individual cryptocurrencies and duplicate coins, which increased the malicious user's wealth while completely destroying the integrity of the coin's blockchain. HoriZEN (formerly ZenCash), Ethereum Classic, and many other great cryptocurrencies have been the victim of NiceHash's platform.
For this and many other reasons, we highly recommend that you stay AWAY from Nicehash. We understand that it is extremely easy to use and you get paid in bitcoin, but they are destroying the industry with their greed and lack of motivation to change their platform for the protection of cryptocurrencies.

Concluding Thoughts

This is pretty much everything you need to know to get started. We covered the hardware, setting up the software, which software to use, and AIOMiner's tutorial will get you up to speed on how to actually mine the cryptocurrency that you want better than I can explain it, so I'll leave that part to them.
If you have any questions on this crash course, please leave a comment below where myself and other community members will be able to help you out.

Yay we are making money! What's next?

The past couple of months, especially the last week, has been pretty euphoric for the price of our green coin. In this post I want to attempt to explain how we got here, where we are now and what's next. Tell me if I missed something, or if my interpretation of what happened (or what is to come) is not how you see things. Obviously this is all my personal opinion, I hope it will start a healthy discussion about the future of the coin and it's community!
How we got here
To explain the recent bull run we have to look back a couple of months. Vertcoin implemented segwit and was one of the first coins to complete an atomic swap. Personally this was the first time I heard of the coin, after reading around for a bit I didn't think too much of it; “oh an other Bitcoin clone with some extra gimmicks, cool.” Obviously there would be a spike in price because of the attention, but I didn't yet realize what potential the coin had or what made it unique. Judging by the price action I wasn't the only one. The community seemed nice and ASIC resistance seemed like a smart hedge against the bigger PoW coins, but a small coin is still a small coin. Who knows what happens next right? Well some of you did...
Skip forward a few months and the whole Segwit2x debate starts to get more and more serious and uncertainty about the future market starts to grow. I don't want to get into a debate about this one. Simply because there doesn't seem to be any genuine debate about it at all. It feels like the whole debacle devolved in both parties regurgitating their talking points and pointing out how the opposing side is lying/power hungry/satan himself. What did bother me quite a bit (bit! Get it?) was the fact that market forces was pretty much left out of this discussion. Which is a bad sign to me. Ideology and principle is fine and all, but we have to go with what works, not with what is forced the hardest. We are talking about creating an alternative currency to fiat based on neutrality principle, how is market mechanism not the main tool?! Well that's where the ASIC centralization rears it's head. This whole debacle wouldn't have gone this far if mining power was spread evenly, if both parties can't agree they can split up and start their own project. Now we have 2 parties that are straight up hostile towards each other and the normal user can either join one party or watch from the sideline. This is where I started to look for alternatives for Bitcoin because I was done with the whole centralization problem. At first I moved in to Litecoin, but this coin is actually as centralized, or even more, as Bitcoin is. All though I love that community and the hard work the developers put in, hell vertcoin wouldn't be here without them, I couldn't get over the idea that Litecoin now might be a good alternative for what I want in a coin, but it isn't this way because the users demanded it, it's this way because the miners allow it to be. This is (obviously) the point I bought Vertcoin, the whole ASIC resistance thing started to make a whole lot of sense all of a sudden.
Where we are now
I'm guessing the most recent bull run didn't start because of these events, the Ledger adaptation seemed to be the main initial driver. People were reminded that Vertcoin existed and most probably realized that Ledger exposure means more price action. This exposure did create awareness about the ASIC resistance part. The timing is almost perfect though, the whole segwit FUD starts to reach new highs, alt market goes down and the people who lost confidence in the Bitcoin project start to look for alternatives, and Vertcoin says hello.
This massive bull run might not be close to done yet, considering the general uncertainty in the rest of the cryptomarket. Vertcoin, at the moment, is a good hedge against ASIC coins while other alts are sinking. The momentum now reminds me of the insane run ANS/NEO had a while back. At a certain point more and more people notice this coin that just keeps making massive gains, has a solid foundation, a low price and a relative small market cap. It's not unthinkable this run will keep going during this FUD month, I would absolutely not be surprised if Vertcoin hits top 20 within a month because of this, but there will be a correction. Especially if this run keeps going, it will mean more people buy Vertcoin to profit short term instead of buying it for it's long term potential.
So... What's next?
I think this is the beauty of Vertcoin. Since we are ASIC resistant it means everyone can profit from mining, which mean EVERYONE should mine. I'd like to compare Vertcoin's method to an other ASIC resistant coin, Monero. Monero shares this part of the philosophy, the coin should be by the people, for the people. BUT, the Monero mining isn't the easiest to get into. It's mostly a tech savvy and highly ideological motivated crowd. This group isn't that adverse to put in the effort to mine. However, this is not the target group Vertcoin aims for, Vertcoin seems to go for more general adaptation. This is where Vertcoin shines, the one click miner makes it easy for the beginner to mine for themselves. It's still in beta, it's not as easy as it could be and AMD videocards aren't optimized yet, but this will all happen. Most people reading this, especially through this wall of text, will have little qualm with starting to mine Vertcoin at it's current state. Soon it will be easy enough to let mom and pop do it too! I highly encourage people to spread the word on this and start mining, because we simply need it. Last time I checked were are on 2 Thash/s, which compared to other cryptos isn't that much. Think of it like the old days of P2P downloading (member Napster and KaZaa? I member). Those networks don't work if no one seeds, our network isn't secure if people don't mine. The plus is, this time you actually get paid for participating!
ASIC resistance has some other advantages and some disadvantages we shouldn't ignore. The Monero crowd realized that mining could be implemented on sites as an alternative to ads, which seems to be a great idea. The network get's more security, the coin more exposure and the humble internet surfer no ads! It does however open up other forms of centralization. Big sites implementing these methods would indirectly control a bigger portion of the hashrate. Not only this, but the mining is open for malware implementation. Why not infect some office pc's with a miner directed at your Vertcoin address? Or to go full doom and gloom, what about a double spend botnet attack on the network?
These concerns are not that pressing today, we can enjoy and celebrate our achievements for now. But soon we need to get back to it. Start mining everyone and start thinking about how we can protect the network form these risks! Lastly, create awareness among other investors how easy and important it is to mine! The added bonus is of course, the more people mine, the less tempted they are to buy in and get out at a profit!
EDIT:
People, this is all about healthy discussion. Don't downvote opinion you don't agree with, upvote the whole debate if you think the subject is important.

The launch of new models of ASIC miners caused a record growth of the bitcoin’s network hashrate

The launch of new models of ASIC miners caused a record growth of the bitcoin’s network hashrate

Bitcoin mining is the most important driver of the crypto world. At the beginning of the last full week of August, a combined SHA-256 hashrate between networks of bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash exceeded 91 EH/s.
This record is that the fields began to work modern ASIC-miners, among which is Microbt Whatsminer M20S from the company Pangolin, which is able to generate 68-70 TH/s. Power consumption is about 3.36 thousand watts, and also has a significant high noise level (about 75 decibels).
In 2019, the main manufacturers of equipment for mining farms are such players as Bitmain, Pangolin, Innosilicon, Ebang, Strongu, Asicminer and Canaan. Of these seven players four of them - Pangolin, Innosilicon, Bitmain and Strongu, have presented new mining machines to the public in this year.
In addition to the Microbt Whatsminer M20S another important novelty was Asicminer 8 Nano Pro, which has a capacity of 76 TH/s. But there is a nuance: the equipment, on the one hand, is completely sold out, and on the other hand, in the secondary market there are also negative reviews.
Traditionally, the majority of investors in mining equipment are happy with new products from Bitmain, a Corporation that was able to pass the "fire, water and copper pipes" during the development of the crypto-currency market. As a result, now the demand is for a machine Antminer S17 Pro series (53 TH/s) and S17 (56 TH/s), and also a budget model Antminer S9.
All new machines from the Bitmain S17 series are available for purchase, and the price for one unit of such equipment ranges from 2,727 thousand to 2,969 thousand dollars. Depending on the model, the volume of power consumption varies from 1,975 thousand to 2,52 thousand Watts.

Beginners basic guide to building your own PC as of early 2018
(EDIT: Sorry for being a MSI/Corsair Fanboy)
Heres a collection of thoughts to consider when building your own personal PC
As always Id personally use PCPartPicker.com to configure your parts and for further thoughts on compatibility.
First off building a computer is 100% based around what you plan to use the computer for.
Here are a few uses and generic ideas of what to go for. Audio Editing: Lots of small tasks that need to be completed quickly without lag. - Fast Processor( >4GHZ) - Fast RAM (MHZ) -At least 16 gigs! - Fast Storage, SSD manditorily - M.2 or PCI for best performance. - Shitty Graphics card, graphics card there only to keep the cpu from doing other tasks when working. - Can be a few generations or years old. - Many screens for lots of plug in windows to be open Video Editing: Lots of large to render and files to read. - Multi core processor the more the merrier - SSD for fast read/write of large video files. - Insane graphics card, AMD graphics cards are debatibly better but the nvidia Quadro series are specific for video rendering. Gaming: No more than 4 cores intense graphics card - 92% of games are not coded for more than 4 cores so why spend the extra money for it. - SSD for quick load screens - Nvidia cards, 10 series, the higher the number the better. Titan cards for MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE! Coding: quick processor for lots of small tasks. Ergonomic peripherials? - Dear god please dont use a mechanical keyboard so that your coworkers dont kill you. Home office: Everything can be a few gens behind so you can get the best power per dollar spent. - Sorry that Gateway doesnt exist anymore. I guess try Dell...
Parts (Expensive Legos)
CPU (tells things to go places and outputs data) Basically three main routes to go for: Intel, AMD, or ASIC. Intel - Gaming, Data center, Hackintosh Pros: Cooler, Faster speed (GHZ), short small tasks faster Cons: $$$$, less cores AMD - Gaming, Personal Computing, Large task processing Pros: Lots of cores, better price per performance, faster processing of large tasks Cons: Hot chips, large chips?, compatibility issues with MacOS. ASIC - "Application-specific integrated circuit" Pros: Does the task that they are made to do insanely efficently, great for mining. Cons: Literally does nothing else. Holy hell these are expensive, very hot (fans will get loud) CPU Cooler (Im a big fan) Most come with an in box cooler that are ok but please buy aftermarket. In Box - the free shitty cooler that comes with the processor. Pros: Free. Cons: Ugly, makes chip run hot, hard to clean Air cooler - oldest type of cooler but new designs are highly efficent. Pros: Only cooler that has the possibility of being 100% quiet, most likely cheaper Cons: large, if cooler isnt large enough for the chips thermal output the fans will be loud. Liquid - Custom pipes are beautiful, AIO is easy to install and offers similare performance. Pros: Looks cool, great temperatures, "quiet" Cons: Water pump has possibility of being loud, possible spills Phase Change - uses the technology of refridgerators to cool the chip Pros: Can overclock until the chip breaks. (whats colder than cold? ICE COLD!) Cons: Loud (compressor noise), Large pipes, just why.... Motherboard (the convienacnce store of computer parts) Really just about what type of I/O you want. - MAKE SURE FORM FACTOR FITS YOUR CASE! (or vice versa) - Look for PCI lanes for expansion. - How many graphic cards do you have? - PCI based interfaces? - PCI SSD? - PCI DAC? - PCI WIFI? - USbs? Network? Audio? - How many lanes of RAM? - DOES IT FIT YOUR PROCESSOR!?! (really tho) - M.2? - How many sata interaces? Good Brands: MSI, ASUS, Gigabyte Bad Brands: AS(s)Rock, Dell Memory (Dory) - The more the merrier - No less than 8gb for a functional windows machine (16 gb to never have a problem) - Use all the lanes your computer has to offer! the more lanes to access the faster the data can travel! -Imagine drinking a milkshake. If the straw is wider you can drink more of the milkshake than a skinny straw. - Faster MHZ for faster data access but give minimal performance differances - Please get ram with heat spreadders unles youre building a server with high airflow. - Make sure the type (DDR3 or DDR4) of RAM matches what your processomotherboard call for. Good Brands: Corsair, G.Skill, Ballistix Storage (Grandpa that remembers everythign about how things used to be but takes forever to learn a new tasK) Speed or massive storage? slower is cheaper. Golden ratio of speed/storage/price is 250-500 gb SSD and a 1+ tb disk drive. *Max speeds listed are for a single drive not RAID* Hard Disk Drives (HDD) - Cheapest and slowest - read/write speeds of < 0.5gb/s - 7200+ RPM or GTFO - Higher Speed drives can access data faster. - Do not move while powered up. physical parts will break. - Larger Cahche = faster Read/Write Speeds Pros: Cheap, Holds massive amounts of data Cons: Slower than molasses in a frezer Reputible Brands: Seagate, WD Solid State Drives (SSD) - necessity for quick boots and fast load screens (can only be re-written to so many times) - SATA based (2.5 inch)- Read/Write speeds capped @ 6 gb/s Pros: Most economical, form factor fits with old computers, Cons: "Slow" compared to other ssd's (but stil 12 times faster than a HDD) - M.2 based - Read/Write speeds capped @ 10 gb/s Pros: Size of a sick of gum! High End but not too expensive to be out of reach. Cons: Expensive for any size over 500 gb - PCI based - Read/Write speeds capped @ 20 gb/s for PCI3, x4 Pros: HOLY BANDWIDTH BATMAN! Faster than that little creepy ghost thats always in the corner of you eye Cons: You might have to take out a loan to buy one. *takes up a x4 PCI Lane* Reputible Brands: Samsung! Corsair, Plextor, Intel, Kingston, Crucial Video Card (that one kid that has thick glasses and is really good at math) - A regular old PCI card that handles all of the video rendering and output for your computer. - ASIC PCI cards. - The PCBs and chips are patented by two main companies but the differances come from line up and varying manufacturer cooling devices. - The more memory the better -NVIDIA (Team Green) Great for gaming, has specific card series for intensive rendering. Lazy driver updates. - Gaming - 900 series - Cheap - Low performance - Can play any video game made befrore 2010 on max settings - 1000 (ten) series - Expensive (thanks bitcoin miners...) - Great for VR! - Video Rendering -Quadro Series - Gaming and Rendering - Titan X - Maxwell based chip same as 900 series cards - Titan XP - Pascal based chip same as 10 series cards -AMD (Team Red) Underdog does the same thing but slighly worse and cheaper. (except video rendering) - Gaming - RX 400 series - Cheap - Hot - RX 500 series - Cheap - Ok at VR and deacent gaming frame rates. - Not bad but not particularly great either. - Video Rendering - Fire Pro series - Gaming and Rendering - Vega series -Good luck finding one to buy lmao Case (Fancy clothing for your parts!) - Similar to human clothing you want it to do a few main things really well with compromises for each extreme. - Durability - Steel - Incredibly durable - Creates Farady cage for components - Heavy af - Magnets, just magnets.... - Rust over time - Aluminium - Light - East to bend for modding or "physical maintenance" - Less likely to rust - Huzzah for Farady cages! - Plastic - Just dont - no electrical Ground - no faraday cage - Light AF! - Breath (Airflow) - positive internal airflow! - larger fans push the same amount of air with less speed/noise - Looks - Window? - RGB - Cool Paint? - Fit all your parts - graphics card length/ clearacne - support for liquid cooling raiators? - How many spots for HDD/SSDs - Motherboard format - Cable management! Power Supply (FIGHT MILK) - Rule of thumb: BUy Powersupply that outputs 1.5 times the wattage that you need. - You can walk further than you can you can run. - The PSU can casually output 50-75% power for much longer than at 90-100% (without failure) - If you never demand enough wattage for it to get hot the fan doesnt have to turn on therefore making it quieter. - Modular means you can remove/replace the cables from the PSU. Reputible Brands: Corsair, EVGA Optical Drive (motorized cup holder) - You can download most things today so I'd suggest against it unless you really NEED to watch/write DVD's/CD's Operating System (software that makes everything work) Windows (Always Updates) - Compatible with just about everything - Easy to learn to code on! - POS inital browser - Likely to get virus's Linux (Penguins are cute) - Unique - takes less resources to run - Barebones - Incredibly personalizable! - Compatibility issues with just about everything MacOS (Linux but more annoying) - It is legal! - Great for art and your grandma that doenst know how to use computers! - User friendly - Compatibility issues with various hardware - Confusing/Limiting coding structure Peripherials (cables everywhere!) - Keyboard (higer Polling rate is better) - Mechanical (key is pressed at an exact stroke length every time - Mouse (Higher Polling rate is better) - more buttons = better? - DPI (Dots Per Inch) - In theory, if a mouse has 1600 DPI, then, if you move your mouse one inch (2.54 cm), the mouse cursor will move 1600 pixels - Higher DPI the faster your cursor is able to be moved. - Monitor - In theory the human eye cant see faster than 60 frames per second. - Keep in mind Pixel ratio! - 4k screen that is 22inches will have more pixels in a square inch than a 4k screen that is 28 inches. - Interface? - DVI (Analog) - thumbscrews..... - can do two monitors with one port! - support for 4k - VGA (Analog) - thumbscrews... - max resolution is 1440p - Display Port (digital) - nice button clip - supports 4k - HDMI (Digital) - 1.2 or higer supports 4k - DAC/Speakers/Headphones - Dont even get me started - Microphone - Dont get me started PT.2 Other (other) - UPS (uninterruptible power supply) Just a battery that allows your computer to have some time if the power ever goes out so that you have time to save your work. - Cable Organization materials! - Zipties - velcro - LED LIGHTING! - Manditory - Extra/Better fans - More pressure, less woosh - IFIXIT Pro Tech Toolkit - becasue who buys just one torx wrench. - Cute kitten mousepad - Yes, it has to be a cat. Are ASIC miners really worth it?

Avalon claims 85GH/s from their flagship model and Butterfly labs claim 1500GH/s from their top model. What throws me off is under Butterfly lab's driver page, the driver for the 1500GH/s Mini Rig miner will only perform at 1300-1500 MegaHashes a second, not the Gigahashes as the name of the unit suggests.
So that is well over $30k for an ASIC miner that will only do 1300-1500MH/s where as my Latest rig I built is doing 2100MH/s and only cost me $1700.
Whats the deal? Why are people saying GPU's are no longer good for mining?

Why the Bitcoin Error Log Interview is Important

In a recent interview between John Carvahlo, CEO of Xotika and owner of the YouTube channel Bitcoin Error Log, and Roger Ver, millionaire Bitcoin investor and owner of the web domain bitcoin.com, tensions rise to all time highs much like the price of the coin these two individuals sponsor. In this near 45 minute interview that was cut short due to the latter “Rage-Quitting”, a lot was revealed from the core philosophies surrounding both Bitcoin and Bitcoin Cash in the 2017 market of crypto currencies.
The interview begins and ends with a discussion over the name “Bcash” which was infamously given to Bitcoin Cash by its opponents in the crypto-sphere. Bitcoin Cash was given the name Bcash by the Bitcoin community so as to not create confusion between the two coins as well as to anger the supporters of Bitcoin Cash; a tactic which appears to be quite effective as demonstrated in this interview. To be fair to Roger Ver, Carvahlo did seem a bit unprofessional by not trying to avoid calling Bitcoin Cash Bcash or by getting equally as heated as Roger Ver, but it’s a free market and there are no rules or laws that prevent him from doing as he pleases.
On one side we have Roger Ver, vehemently defending the honour of Bitcoin Cash as the truest form of the white paper created by Satoshi Nakamoto. On the other hand we have John Carvahlo who seems to use the term Bcash to delegitimize the claim that Bitcoin Cash is the true Bitcoin, to avoid confusion between the two coins for any newcomers to the crypto currency space and to annoy Roger Ver. Through out the rest of the interview, between overlapping rebuttals, some bits of information are dropped that reveal a lot about the true intention of one party in particular.
For starters Roger Ver claims that Bitcoin is a peer-to-peer electronic cash system to which Carvahlo disagrees as the presence of nodes on the network suggests otherwise. And I have to agree with John Carvahlo. Nothing on the Internet is truly peer-to-peer. The Internet itself suffers from forms of centralization between Internet Service Providers and the regional nodes they get the Internet from. The Internet in 2017 is void of any direct communication between peers; there are always middlemen in between. This brings up another topic discussed during the interview, whether or not Bitcoin as a network is truly decentralized.
For starters, Roger Ver claims that varying degrees of centralization are acceptable within the network and he expects the network to become more and more centralized as the growth of Bitcoin continues. To which I half agree. I think anarchy as governance is flawed; some political structure is necessary, such as Athenian democracy. Yes the Internet’s structure as well as that of the Bitcoin network, with the nodes and the ever-increasing difficulty of mining, can both guarantee that the Bitcoin network will never be truly decentralized and peer-to-peer. But what is worrying is what degree of centralization Roger Ver is ok with; and that is the heart of the scaling debate.
Yes at times the Bitcoin network suffers from slow transaction times and high fees. Yes scaling is a problem with a desperate need for a solution. No, increasing the block size is not the answer.
First, lets dissect Roger Ver’s position on bigger blocks. He claims that over the last 7 to 8 years, the Bitcoin blocks have scaled successfully and that empirically, it is a proven scaling solution that will lower transaction fees and times. The problem with that is his premise that Bitcoin has been scaling since the beginning is completely wrong and paints his cause in a preferred light. Bitcoin has not been scaling since 2009. When Bitcoin was created, within the code a block size limit was written. The block size limit has to be defined for blockchain to work because that would be a coding error. It would cause network stalls during periods of high traffic where a block could in theory never fill if enough transactions are being sent to the network at once. This is what is known as a Sybil attack. So from a certain point in time early in Bitcoin’s development, a block size limit of 1MB was coded into Bitcoin. Roger Ver claims that over the years, the block size grew from 1 KB to 2KB, so on and so forth until it reached the 1MB block size but that is wrong. The blocks always had room for 1MB but were very small due to the amount of transactions present in the mempool. That’s like saying my 100 mL cup that is half filled is actually a 50 mL cup because only half of it is being used. It’s still a 100 mL cup. And this is important because it proves that bigger blocks as a scaling solution has not been empirically tested. Which is why an “altcoin with a smaller market cap is being used to test new features”; it’s called Bitcoin Cash.
Another point that was not talked about during the interview is how bigger blocks cause greater miner centralization, the most critical flaw of the bigger blocks approach. With ASIC’s and ASIC Boost, it has become incredibly difficult for any individual to start mining Bitcoin for a profit. A large upfront investment into specialized mining hardware is required in order to generate a profit. This means that mining or the process of validating transactions is becoming more and more reserved to wealthy individuals. And this is apparently, arguably bad; at least Roger Ver seems to be ok with varying degrees of centralization. Except the whole point of crypto currencies is that no individual or no individual group should be able to control the network for their own self interest; we have fiat currency for that. So then when increasing the block size, yes more transactions are able to be processed in one block which does reduce fees and settling times except that bigger blocks are harder to mine, pushing the mining process further into centralization. It’s also a temporary solution because with the growing number of Bitcoin users, a bigger block size limit will be reached requiring another hard fork to increase the block size limit. This is like adding lanes to a highway because too many drivers are present on the road; it’s a bandaid solution that avoids the root of the problem.
This interview is important because between the well-rehearsed lines and the pressing questions, within his off-script bouts of rage, the true Roger Ver shines bright. Roger Ver talks about Bitcoin as if it’s a company. He criticizes the Core development team because since their arrival into the space, he claims that the market cap of Bitcoin has been “bleeding out” and that it’s losing its market share to altcoins, pointing to its drop in market dominance as proof. He might be right, or perhaps more and more people are looking at the wealth of early Bitcoin adopters and are trying to get rich from altcoins that could see similar growth. Or maybe it’s because altcoins aren’t direct competitors to Bitcoin and are using blockchain to solve real world problems and people are seeing their value. Regardless, he also argues that not anybody is able to contribute code to Bitcoin. And all of this is a twisted version of reality that pushes his agenda. Anybody today can write code for Bitcoin, and through community consensus can have it implemented. Roger Ver did not have the opportunity to defend his claim during the interview, but I think it’s apparent that because block size increases have been repeatedly shut down by the community, he claims that nobody outside Core can contribute code to Bitcoin. That’s just not true. Segwit, a Bitcoin feature added through node consensus, is allowing for the lightning network, a layer 2 scaling solution, to be independently developed by passionate members of the Bitcoin community. The very idea of a BIP (Bitcoin Improvement Proposal) was proposed and implemented by a community member. Roger Ver also often refers to permissions on the GitHub repository as “the keys” as if any one person can own the network like a house. This is false. The reason why the core developers code is widely accepted is because the community supports the work they’re doing. Roger Ver says it himself: he believes we need to let the market decide what coin is the true Bitcoin. Except that it already has. If people wanted bigger blocks, Bitcoin Cash would be called Bitcoin. It is also worth noting that the market has decided multiple times that it does not want to increase the block size as other Bitcoin forks that Roger Ver has supported in the past, namely Bitcoin Classic and Bitcoin Unlimited, have failed.
Roger Ver claims that people who call Bitcoin Cash, Bcash have been brainwashed by its opponents. He believes that Segwit is adopted by brainwashed individuals. As if nobody in the Bitcoin community can think for themselves; we’re all just sheep waiting for a shepherd like Roger Ver to tell us what’s right. Except that by purposefully misleading newcomers to the crypto space by calling his website that supports Bitcoin Cash, bitcoin.com, by misleading the newcomers by not clearly explaining the differences between Bitcoin Cash and Bitcoin on the wallet app his website sponsors and by also calling Bitcoin, Bitcoin Core or Bitcoin Segwit, he’t not only being a hypocrite for criticizing Carvahlo for name calling, he’s also issuing his own brand of brainwashing instead of letting new users decide for themselves which coin is the real Bitcoin. If his claims that Core and Core supporters are brainwashing people were true, Roger Ver would be just as guilty of doing this.
A final point I would like to make is how both camps view Bitcoin philosophically. The Bitcoin supporters mostly view Bitcoin as a store of value while Bitcoin Cashers view Bitcoin as a peer-to-peer digital cash. And I want to point out that Bitcoin fails tremendously in its current state at being a dollar killer, a digital cash. Bitcoin as a store of value has succeeded tremendously. People all over the world are using Bitcoin to have value traverse borders with ease, to send value to loved ones without going through Western Union or as an investment vehicle. In that sense, Bitcoin is truly like digital gold. As a currency, it has seen some success in terms of adoption. Many merchants accept Bitcoin as a form of payment. You can even buy airline tickets with Baltic Airlines via Bitcoin. But, in my opinion, neither Bitcoin nor Bitcoin Cash could today successfully replace fiat currency. If today either coin were adopted globally, both coins in their current state would face tremendous scaling issues, causing insanely high transaction fees and slow confirmation times. The lightning network is showing more promise than bigger blocks as it doesn’t push miner centralization, it actually decreases the amount of transactions on chain but it has yet to be seen if this solution will work. Without scaling as an issue, both coins also suffer from a deflationary problem, which many economists argue disqualifies most crypto currencies as a good fiat replacement. That however, is a different topic.
The scaling debate should not be a debate anymore. The community has been offered a currency with larger blocks, lower fees and faster settling times, time and time again. It had Bitcoin Classic, Bitcoin Unlimited, Bitcoin Cash and Segwit 2X to decide and the answer has been an astounding no. If users truly desired a coin that fit this description, Litecoin would lead the crypto currency market, or any other crypto currency like it. But the fact is Bitcoin in its flawed state leads the pack and nobody today uses Bitcoin as a digital cash as Satoshi Nakamoto intended. Just like nobody avoids eating shrimp and other crustaceans because the Bible said it was a great sin. I believe the topic on crypto forums should no longer be scaling as Segwit is being adopted through consensus and the Lightning Network is imminent. If it fails to scale Bitcoin, then we’ll go back to the drawing board. I think the true debate should be whether the community wants Bitcoin to truly be a replacement for fiat currencies or if it should remain a store of value like gold.
Either way, this interview gives the crypto community a glimpse at the real Roger Ver, a used-car-salesmen type who rehearses his lines and changes definitions to paint his cause in the proper light. A guy who is ok with Bitcoin becoming centralized. A guy who likes to flash his cash and likes to belittle others for making less money than him and for operating legitimate businesses within the sex industry. A guy who disagrees with the decisions the Bitcoin community has made over the years so instead of creating his own currency and leaving the Bitcoin brand alone, he constantly pushes a skewed narrative of Core and Bitcoin and how it’s flawed. How Bitcoin Cash is the true Bitcoin. He acts like a paternal figure, knowing what’s best for the community despite it’s previous choices and loses his temper when it’s evident he doesn’t have control; like an abusive lover. If his intentions were honest, why would he try to steal the Bitcoin brand? Why would he try to tarnish the name of the thing that gave him a large part of his wealth in the first place? Personally, it seems to me like he’s that kid at the playground, the one that nobody wanted to play games by his rules. Instead of finding someone else to play with, he tries to manipulate others, takes fits when he doesn’t get his way and ultimately decides for everyone that if he can’t have his way, then nobody should.

Dont argue
This is a very general entry into building computers and what you should buy/look for. If you have any questions/comments send me an e-mail!

Bitcoin mining with Block Erupter USB miner and BFGMiner. I’ve previously made a post on how to use your Block Erupters using CGMiner, personally it worked for me when I was running a few erupters on a hub but as I increased my mining network and I started to use hundreds of erupters, I noticed CGMiner became a little bit buggy. So I decided to give BFGMiner a try, and so far I’ve been ...
